Manchester United takeover talks continue with Glazer family looking for higher bid – Paper Round
Man Utd talks not abandoned
The Mail reports that talks between interested parties and the Glazer family have not been abandoned regarding the proposed takeover, despite recent reports the club was no longer for sale.
“Those close to the process added that nothing had changed.
“The club’s owners, the Glazers, announced last November that they would explore investment options, including the prospect of a full sale.
“However, 10 months have passed and the Americans, despised by large sections of United’s support, remain in charge.
“Sources with knowledge of the process added that negotiations were continuing.
“Both bids were around the £5bn mark, some way short of the Glazers’ valuation. The talks are aimed at bridging what is a substantial gap.”
Al-Ittihad prepare new Salah bid
The Mirror believes that Al-Ittihad of the Saudi Pro League will offer £215 million for the 31-year-old Egyptian international before the end of their transfer window.
“The Saudi Pro League champions are trying to agree a deal for Salah, 31, but Liverpool are refusing to sell their talisman. They’ve already rejected a £150million bid from Al-Ittihad, with a £215m offer set to be submitted. That would be a world-record transfer fee.
“Although the Premier League’s transfer window closed last Friday, Saudi clubs can sign players until this Thursday. That means Al-Ittihad still have time to agree a transfer fee with Liverpool and make Salah the best-paid footballer on the planet.”
Pepe given Arsenal warning
The Sun writes that Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe has been warned that he will not play for Arsenal again, even if he fails to make a move to a new club in the coming days.
“The 28-year-old Ivorian international has resisted all the club’s efforts to get rid of him without a lucrative pay-off.
“But now he has just days to sort out a move before his last escape routes slam shut in his face.
“Turkish title contenders Besiktas are still keen to sign Pepe despite being turned down by the player earlier in the summer.
“And his representatives are also trying to raise a last-ditch offer from Al Shabab before the Saudi transfer window closes on Thursday.
“But Pepe still has ten months remaining on his £150,000-a-week Arsenal contract which will net him around £6.5million if he stays at the Emirates.”
Van de Beek could still leave United
Amid reports of a potential move to Besiktas, The Athletic notes that Donny van de Beek is not part of Manchester United’s Champions League group stage squad.
“The 26-year-old midfielder, who joined the club from Ajax in 2020, has struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford.
“The Netherlands international, who was linked with a move away from the club this summer, has not featured in United’s first four Premier League games this season and has been omitted from their Champions League group stage squad.”
