Maren Morris enters her ‘petty era,’ seemingly shades Jason Aldean
This small town ain’t big enough for the both of them.
Maren Morris seemingly shaded fellow country music star Jason Aldean in her new music video.
The 33-year-old posted to Instagram on Thursday a clip for a new song that seemingly took a shot at the “She’s Country” singer, 46.
“I’m done filling a cup with a hole in the bottom,” Morris captioned the video.
In the post, the “My Church” songstress is seen lying on the ground when she sees a sign that reads: “Welcome to our perfect SMALL TOWN from sundown to sunset.”
The message unmistakably evokes Aldean’s controversial song “Try That in a Small Town.”
The single has been accused of having racist and violent implications.
Fans took to the Nashville native’s comments section to applaud her barbed allusion.
“MAREN IN HER PETTY ERA I AM HERE FOR IT 🔥,” one person exclaimed.
Another person penned: “This small town is filled with shade. I love that for us 😂😂😂.”
One screamed: “EVERYONE REMAIN CALM, MAREN IS COMIN’ OUT SWINGIN’!!!!!”
“Maren Morris is a boss and a hero who isn’t afraid to be a bigger human and stand up against senseless bullies! 💛,” a fan chimed in.
The music video for “Try That in a Small Town” was pulled by CMT in July as Aldean defended himself against harsh criticism of the song.
The music video featured footage from protests, including Black Lives Matter demonstrations, and led to critics branding the star a “racist” and a “violent bigot.”
“In the past 24 hours I have been accused of releasing a pro-lynching song (a song that has been out since May) and was subject to the comparison that I (direct quote) was not too pleased with the nationwide BLM protests,” Aldean wrote in a statement posted to his Instagram Story at the time.
“These references are not only meritless, but dangerous,” the father of four said.
Morris and Aldean already had a rocky relationship in recent years, as she has previously feuded with his wife, Brittany, over trans issues.
In August 2022, Morris slammed Brittany for using transphobic rhetoric in an Instagram reel.
“I’d really like to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I went through my tomboy phase,” the former cheerleader captioned a makeup video at the time. “I love this girly life.”
Morris then called her a “scumbag human” and “Insurrection Barbie” on X (formerly known as Twitter) last summer.
