Why Sara Haines sips from multiple mugs on ‘The View’
She got mugged.
Sara Haines has revealed the real reason why she seemingly sips from three different mugs during tapings of “The View,” while the chatfest’s other co-hosts content themselves with one apiece.
“The question we get asked more than anything else is, ‘why does Sara have multiple mugs at the table, what is going on?,’” the talk show’s executive producer Brian Teta told Haines, 45, on the newly launched “Behind The Table” podcast.
“We’ve kind of kept it close to the vest, do we want to get into this now?” he asked the giggling host.
“I mean, we can,” Haines replied. “Because I did not realize until 24 hours after looking at our mug that you put two mugs on there for me,” she added, referring to the new cups the ladies drink from, which feature illustrations of each host.
Teta then suggested they duo start at the beginning of “Mug Gate.”
“Let’s break it up. To start with, there were two mugs. There was questions about why you had two mugs.”
“It was trending everywhere … ‘Sara’s mugs, what’s going on? Is she dehydrated? What’s happening?’” he recalled.
“Yeah, there was illnesses assigned to me,” Haines joked about viewers’ assumptions.
“No, one was hot, one was cold. I was sick. It’s so boring, like, that’s what it started as,” she revealed.
Since her mugs were causing so much commotion, Teta said he suggested that they “throw a third mug out there” and even thought about introducing mugs of various shapes and sizes to keep viewers curious.
“I think we need to say, though, that the second mug — the joke started as us joking with the audience as they talked about the mugs, but then the crew ended up punking me,” Haines recalled.
“Every day there was something different in that mug and I’m gonna release pictures,” she declared, admitting some of the items in the cup were “appropriate” while others weren’t.
When Teta asked her to list examples, she replied: “One was yellow Jell-O that hadn’t even solidified so it looked like a weird juice, and I thought someone peed in a mug. I thought, ‘they can’t do that can they?’ I was sniffing it.”
Haines and Teta claimed the crew kept the gag up so long that co-host Whoopi Goldberg even had to get in on it.
“I noticed one time I took them all away for a serious moment and Whoopi [Goldberg] slid her mug over to yours,” Teta remembered as the pair shared another laugh.
“The Chase” host also denied she ever drank alcohol on the job.
“When people said it, I thought, ‘do they think I’m drinking up there?’”
“Well, sometimes you’re drinking,” Teta teased.
“Yeah, drinking water,” Sara shot back. It wasn’t even like Diet Coke or something interesting.”
The Post has contacted reps for “The View” for comment.
Earlier this year, “The View” added coasters underneath their mugs so that the co-hosts didn’t get blamed for “fart” sounds coming from the table.
