How to Watch ‘Yellowstone’ on CBS and Where to Stream

Rip and Beth are coming to CBS. “Yellowstone” is making its broadcast premiere on the network on Sunday, Sept. 17, after previously airing on Paramount Network.

Audiences who want to tune into season 1 of the Kevin Costner-led series can watch the show Sundays at 8:30 p.m. ET. The series will then air weekly in two-hour blocks every Sunday night.

Additionally, the series can be streamed on Peacock (with a subscription), DirectTV (for a fee), and purchased or rented on Apple TV, Amazon and Google Play Movies.

The move comes amid the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes — and the cast of Taylor Sheridan’s Western drama still not back on set to wrap part two of Season 5.

In April, Costner, Sheridan and the lead cast — Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, Luke Grimes, Kelsey Asbille, Wes Bentley, Gil Birmingham and Jacki Weaver — all skipped PaleyFest last-minute, upsetting fans who bought a ticket for the L.A. panel, and raising suspicions about behind-the-scenes tensions between Sheridan and Costner.

Josh Lucas, Wendy Moniz, Mo Brings Plenty and Dawn Olivieri were ultimately brought in as backup. The following month, Costner would go on to confirm his exit and the network revealed the fifth season would be its last.

“I’m disappointed,” Sheridan, 53, told The Hollywood Reporter about Costner’s departure. “It truncates the closure of his character. It doesn’t alter it, but it truncates it.”

He added: “His creation of John Dutton is symbolic and powerful … and I’ve never had an issue with Kevin that he and I couldn’t work out on the phone.”

He also noted that the “Hidden Figures” actor, 68, “took a lot of this on the chin” when it came to the feud rumors. “His movie [“Horizon”] seems to be a great priority to him and he wants to shift focus. I sure hope [the movie is] worth it — and that it’s a good one.”

Filming the final episodes of Season 5 was initially supposed to begin in May 2022, but the cast wasn’t given any update once that date passed. Now, the production will be pushed back further due to the strikes.

More insight into Coster’s exit from the show surfaced recently amid his messy divorce court battle with his estranged wife, Christine Baumgartner. In court docs, Baumgartner’s attorneys claimed that Costner “refused to answer questions about whether he was offered the opportunity” to star in a potential sixth season of Yellowstone “or if he simply chose to quit.”

Her team questioned Costner about the show while trying to determine his income amid the exes’ child support agreement. They share three children: sons Cayden, 16, and Hayes, 14, and daughter Grace, 13.

Costner reportedly made about $11 million for season 4 of Yellowstone, approximately $1.1 million per episode. He was also paid about $10 million for Season 5 so far.

Earlier this month, Costner broke his silence about the show drama, testifying in court that he had a “long, hard-fought negotiation” over splitting Season 5 into two parts, which led to his decision to leave.

“I’ve been told it’s a little disappointing that (it’s) the number one show on TV (and) I’m not participating. … I couldn’t help them any more. We tried to negotiate, they offered me less money than previous seasons, there were issues with the creative,” Costner said on the stand. When asked if he received his salary for the second half of Season 5 yet, he said, “I will probably go to court over it.”

Sheridan, meanwhile, is focusing on other “Yellowstone” spinoffs — including “1883” and “1923,” which can both be found on Paramount +. In June, it was announced that Matthew McConaughey would star in another show in the “Yellowstone” universe.
