Sophie Turner, Joe Jonas will keep kids in NYC amid divorce battle
Joe Jonas and his estranged wife Sophie Turner’s two daughters will remain in New York as their messy divorce court battle rages on.
In an interim consent order filed in Manhattan federal court and obtained by The Post, the Jonas Brothers musician and the “Game of Thrones” actress both agreed that their children will stay in the state.
Turner, 27, gave birth to their first child, a daughter named Willa, in July 2020, and their second daughter was born two years later.
The Daily Mail was the first to report on the agreement.
Reps for Jonas and Turner could not be immediately reached by The Post for comment.
On September 4, Jonas, 34, officially filed for divorce from Turner after four years of marriage. In the filing, he cited that the relationship was “irretrievably broken.”
A mere three weeks later, Turner filed a lawsuit against Jonas, accusing her estranged husband of refusing to let their two young daughters return to their “forever home” in England.
What you need to know about Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner’s split
Joe Jonas filed for divorce from his wife Sophie Turner on Sept. 5, 2023, after four years of marriage.
The couple have two children together.
A source claims the pair had “many disagreements,” and the divorce was a “last resort” for Jonas.
Jonas is seeking “shared parental responsibility” with his estranged wife.
The children are said to live primarily with Jonas, and the singer is said to be caring for them “pretty much all the time.”
Turner’s penchant for partying is believed to have factored into the split, and a source said the pair have “very different lifestyles.”
Turner is suing Jonas for the return of their two daughters to England, the actress claims she found out her estranged husband filed for divorce “through the media.”
Jonas fired back at the lawsuit, claiming it goes against an “amicable co-parenting setup.”
“The Father has prevented the children’s return to England, which is a breach of the Mother’s rights of custody under English law, England being the children’s habitual residence,” the suit read.
“The Father has possession of the children’s passports. He refuses to return the passports to the Mother and refuses to send the children home to England with the Mother.”
Jonas responded to Turner’s claims in a bombshell statement to The Post. “Joe is seeking shared parenting with the kids so that they are raised by both their mother and father, and is of course also okay with the kids being raised both in the U.S. and the UK. The children were born in the U.S. and have spent the vast majority of their lives in the U.S. They are American citizens,” Jonas’ rep statement said.
“This is an unfortunate legal disagreement about a marriage that is sadly ending. When language like ‘abduction’ is used, it is misleading at best, and a serious abuse of the legal system at worst. The children were not abducted,” the statement continued.
“After being in Joe’s care for the past three months at the agreement of both parties, the children are currently with their mother. Sophie is making this claim only to move the divorce proceedings to the UK and to remove the children from the U.S. permanently.”
The once Hollywood golden couple are set to appear in court for a pretrial conference on Oct. 3, 2023.
