‘Every gold medal is different’ – Bartosz Zmarzlik celebrates fourth SGP championship win
Bartosz Zmarzlik revealed that “every gold medal is different” after claiming his fourth world championship at the Speedway at Torun on Saturday evening.
Zmarzlik won his third title last year, and this championship represents a back-to-back victory in Speedway.
His success was built off the back of early-season success after he won three of the first GPs of the season, at Gorican, Teterow and Gorzow.
Added to Saturday’s success, he also won the gold medal at the 2023 Speedway World Cup final with Poland, and also added a fourth GP in Latvia, equalling the record set by Tomasz Gollob.
Zmarzlik has now won his fourth championship, in his native Poland, and speaking after the race, he told TNT Sports that he felt a unique pressure to win this time.
He said: “After last season, I say every gold medal is different.
“And I feel now this is different because I felt for the first time in my career I must, not only can.
“I must win today because this is very important for me because I feel like five years, my leaving class, I’m doing this now.”
He continued: “[It’s a lot of] pressure, but I feel that 24 points in front [earlier in the championship] and today I’m six points in front, so easier for [my mind], because I’m only saying to myself, it’s easy six, you must focus on the race and see what happens after the heats.”
