Hunter Biden appears in court on federal gun charges

First son Hunter Biden arrived Tuesday morning at a Delaware federal courthouse, where he’s expected to plead not guilty to weapons and false statement charges after a plea deal collapsed over the summer.

The 53-year-old, who walked into the Wilmington federal courthouse shortly before 10 a.m. to face Maginstrate Judge Christopher Burke has been charged by special counsel David Weiss with lying about being addicted to crack cocaine when he bought a gun nearly five years ago.

The felony charges carry a top sentence of 25 years in prison, though that severe penalty would be unlikely to be handed down to the non-violent, first-time offender.

President Biden’s son was brought up on the felonies after walking away from a plea deal this summer that would have granted him probation for failing to pay more than $2 million in taxes.

Under that agreement, Hunter would have admitted to the gun offenses, but the deal fell apart around the time a pair of IRS whistleblowers sounded the alarm on what they called a wide-ranging coverup in the fed’s investigation.

Hunter was set to appear in court in person after a judge declined his request to be arraigned over Zoom from his California home.

The case is moving forward as House Republicans launched an impeachment inquiry into President Biden, alleging that the Democrat benefitted from his son’s overseas lobbying activities when he served as vice president.
