Hubert Hurkacz downs Ugo Humbert to set up Felix Auger-Aliassime final at Swiss Indoors Basel

Hubert Hurkacz won his Swiss Indoors Basel semi-final on Saturday with a 6-4 3-6 7-6(5) victory over Ugo Humbert on Saturday.

The win took the Pole above Taylor Fritz into ninth place as he looks to secure a place in the ATP Finals, as he trails Holger Rune in No. 8.

Rune is 215 points ahead of Hurkacz at the moment, but a win for him on Sunday will cut that to 15.

“I try to shut down the noise and do my job, because ultimately if you can do that then you give yourself the best chance,” Hurkacz said after his win.

Hurkacz found his opponent tough to beat as he was 5-3 up in the third set and could not serve for the match, and could not break the Frenchman in the following game despite having two match points.

Instead he had three match points on the decisive tie-break to claim the win.

Hurkacz sent down eight aces in the match and he is now 42 short of 1,000 in total for the season.

The victory continues a decent run of form for Hurkacz, who won the Shanghai Masters earlier in October, and will meet Canadian 23-year-old Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final on Sunday.

Auger-Aliassime defeated Holger Rune 6-3 6-2 and is back in his first final since the 2022 edition of this tournament.

He had just four wins in his most recent 12 matches, but was able to break the Danish player’s serve four times over the course of his 83-minute win. A win on Sunday would be his fifth tour title.
