Cyclist Kaitlin Armstrong stood over her love rival and shot her in the heart: prosecutors

Yoga teacher Kaitlin Armstrong allegedly stood over her love rival and shot her in the heart as the pro cyclist screamed in terror, prosecutors said during opening statements.

Armstrong, 35 — who fled to Costa Rica after the alleged love triangle killing — appeared somber in court as she wore a blue button-down and dark-colored blazer to hear opening statements.

Travis County Prosecutor Rickey Jones recalled the moment Anna Moriah Wilson, who went by Mo, took her last breath screaming after Armstrong allegedly shot her several times while standing over the woman.

“The last thing Mo did on this earth was scream in terror,” Jones told the jurors. “And you will hear those screams.”

Audio of the alleged murder was played in court, according to NewsNation reporter Alex Caprariello. It is unclear if Wilson’s screams were audible.

The screams are reportedly followed by a “pop” sound, Jones said, and then silence.

“Kaitlin Armstrong stood over Mo Wilson and put a third shot right into Mo Wilson’s heart,” Jones alleged, according to Court TV.

Despite the heart-wrenching opening statements, Armstrong’s lawyers reiterated that no video evidence or witnesses can place the defendant at the scene of the murder.

The redhead is accused of murdering Wilson after finding out her boyfriend Colin Strickland had allegedly had a relationship with the other cyclist behind her back.

She had denied the charges.

Prosecutors also said they will show how Armstrong tracked Strickland’s communications with Wilson and her whereabouts through an app, according to Court TV.

Armstrong — who fled the country shortly after the murder — has been accused of driving by the victim’s house the night of the murder and that the shell casing found at the scene match the gun found at the alleged murderer’s home.

Armstrong evaded arrest for nearly 45 days until she was found in Costa Rica using a passport and credit card with her sister’s name on it. She also allegedly spent around $6,500 on plastic surgery while in the country and colored her hair.

Her lawyer argued that she was “passionate” about traveling and wouldn’t have known about the arrest warrant when she took off to the Central American country, according to Court TV.

Cameras were only allowed in the courtroom for opening statements. The rest of the trial will not be broadcast again until closing arguments.
