USC student allegedly raped by Lyft driver

A University of Southern California student was allegedly raped after getting a rideshare home from a night out clubbing, according to reports.

The unidentified female student reported getting attacked around 3 a.m. Wednesday after getting home in University Park from a club in West Hollywood, according to KABC.

“When they arrived at her apartment, the Lyft driver raped the student in his car,” a campus crime notice said, with the suspect still at large.

However, it is not clear if the black sedan the student got into was the correct vehicle, KABC added, and Lyft did not immediately respond to messages Thursday.

News of the attack put other students on the campus on high alert.

“It just caught me by surprise, USC junior Lisa Eidum told KABC of hearing about the reported rape.

“Definitely induces some anxiety,” said the student, who usually walks rather than taking rideshares.

“It’s just like you don’t know who they are. You don’t know the background of the driver, what their intentions are.”

Sophomore Katherine Lee also called the news “very shocking” — while crediting Lyft for its efforts to keep customers protected.

“When we think of Lyft it’s a safe app to use, because there are a lot of safety features. I use the safety features all the time.”

Neither Lyft nor USC immediately responded to messages seeking comment early Thursday.
