Tiger Woods: 15-time major champion to return to PGA Tour at Hero World Challenge after seven-month absence with injury

The 47-year-old American will play at the Hero World Challenge in two weeks’ time at the Albany Golf Club in the Bahamas, in a tournament that Woods himself hosts.

Earlier in November, Woods had confirmed that his ankle had healed, but other issues were preventing his return to the professional golf scene.

“My ankle is fine,” he said. “Where they fused my ankle, I have absolutely zero issue whatsoever. That pain is completely gone. It’s the other areas that have been compensated for.

“All the surrounding areas are where I had all my problems and still do.

“You fix one, others have to become more hypermobile to get around it, and it can lead to issues.”

The Hero World Challenge tournament will see a 20-strong field tee off between November 30 and December 3, and Woods has taken the last spot on the roster after overcoming ankle repair surgery back in the spring.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler heads the bill, while Viktor Hovland and Max Homa are also amongst the competitors.

Matt Fitzpatrick is the highest-ranked English player in the field, sitting at No. 8 in the rankings, while Justin Rose – the 2013 US Open champion – is one of two tournament exemptions, along with Lucas Glover, who himself won the US Open in 2009.
