Stefan Kraft sets breaks record with latest Ruka success as he makes it two victories from two
Record breaker Stefan Kraft completed a weekend to remember by making it two wins from two on the opening weekend of the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup season.
Fresh from winning Saturday’s first instalment, Kraft put in a dominant display with two leaps of 148.5m putting him comfortably clear of the pack and earning him 363.5 points, the highest ever overall score at a large hill World Cup event.
It proved a fitting way for the Austrian to bring up his 100th career World Cup podium, just the second male ski jumper to reach that milestone.
Jan Hoerl completed an Austrian one-two in Ruka, 22.6 points behind his compatriot, with Andreas Wellinger becoming the third German to podium across the weekend by taking bronze.
He edged out fellow countryman Pius Paschke, who earned his first-ever World Cup medal at the age of 33 on Saturday and was just 0.3 points away from another within 24 hours.
Stephan Leywe, third on Saturday, was fifth to complete a strong opening weekend for the German contingent.
Reigning overall World Cup champion Halvor Egner Granerud is playing catch-up after following 16th in the opener with a 10th-placed finish on Sunday.
