Taylor Swift declined King Charles III’s coronation invite: book
Maybe she wasn’t ready for it.
Taylor Swift allegedly turned down an invitation to perform at King Charles’ coronation concert in May, royal expert Omid Scobie claims in his new book, “Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival.”
Scobie did not specify why the “London Boy” singer declined the gig, but at the time she was performing the last of her three concerts in Nashville, Tennessee, on the day of the king’s concert.
The Post has contacted a rep for Swift for comment.
Several musicians were reportedly asked to perform at the historical event. Swift’s ex-boyfriend Harry Styles, as well as Adele, Robbie Williams and the Spice Girls, all apparently had better things to do.
A rep for Elton John previously confirmed that the “Rocket Man” legend declined to perform due to scheduling conflicts.
“The royal family has faced a number of p.r. disasters in recent times, and anyone performing at the show would have to consider whether there would be a backlash from appearing amongst their fans,” publicist Simon Jones explained to Rolling Stone in March.
The lack of accepted invites was a stark contrast to the late Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee festivities. Just one year earlier, the event featured Alicia Keys, Diana Ross, John, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Duran Duran, Nile Rodgers, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Rod Stewart and Andrea Bocelli.
“American Idol” judges Katy Perry and Lionel Richie, as well as Andrea Bocelli and Take That, ultimately performed at Charles’ royal concert at Windsor Castle in front of 20,000 fans.
Richie fans, however, were “disappointed” by his voice and lackluster performance, with some even comparing his sound to Kermit the Frog or an amateur at a karaoke bar.
Meanwhile, Prince William and Kate Middleton’s daughter, Princess Charlotte, was spotted singing along to Perry’s “Roar” and “Firework.”
Tom Cruise also delighted the audience with a prerecorded message in celebration of Charles and Queen Camilla.
Scobie’s “Endgame” hits shelves on Tuesday.
