‘The Office’ fans yell at me over John Krasinski
Identity theft is not a joke, Emily.
Emily Blunt revealed recently that many die-hard “Office” fans are still not happy about the fact she and John Krasinski (who played the loveable Jim Halpert) are married.
“Do you know how many people still yell out, ‘I wish you were with Pam!’ like when I’m walking next to him?” Blunt, 40, said while appearing on Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast.
‘Where’s Pam?’ I’m like, ‘She’s not here!’”
Blunt, however, is very close with Jenna Fischer, who played Krasinski’s love interest Pam Beesly on the comedy for nine seasons.
“She’s the best,” Blunt said. “She’s one of our dearest friends. We love Jenna.”
NBC’s mockumentary — which ran from 2005 to 2013 — saw both Jim and Pam flirt, date, breakup, fall in love, get married and welcome two kids over the course of their onscreen relationship.
“People don’t know how John and I are not a couple in real life,” Fischer, 49, said while appearing on the “An Oral History of The Office” podcast, hosted by former cast member Brian Baumgartner, in 2020.
“They don’t understand it,” she added, saying that revealing the truth is like “telling kids there’s no Santa.”
Fischer, who is married to director Lee Kirk, has always felt the need to justify why she and the “Jack Ryan” actor are not together.
In a 2016 episode of “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,” Fischer reflected on their “real chemistry.”
“There’s like a real part of me that is Pam and a real part of him that’s Jim, and those parts of us were genuinely in love with one another,” she said at the time.
Krasinski, 44, later clarified her comments, however, noting they weren’t actually in love.
“I think that was wildly misquoted or taken out of context,” Krasinski told The Daily Beast in 2020.
“I’m sure she was trying to say something nice about how genuine the acting relationship was, of bringing a relationship that became that popular onscreen – and I think we both feel it’s such an honor to be a part of that relationship.”
He concluded: “As far as how she was quoted about saying we were ‘genuinely in love,’ I think that was taken wildly out of context and I feel bad for her.”
Earlier this year, the “Leatherheads” actor made his status even more clear when he did a video for Wired that posed the question: “Is John Krasinski married to Jenna Fischer?”
“I am actually married to Emily Blunt,” he deadpanned. “And I feel pretty good about it.”
