‘Looks like he shot his dog’

A panelist on Megyn Kelly’s special SiriusXM show following the fourth Republican primary debate mocked Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in a hot mic moment late Wednesday.

“Look at that face. He looks like he shot his dog,” an unidentified male voice said over the top of a clip of DeSantis preparing to answer a question from Kelly about his poll numbers lagging way behind GOP frontrunner Donald Trump.

Kelly’s post-debate spin room panel included NewsNation politics editor Chris Stirewalt, The Fifth Column podcast host Michael Moynihan and RealClearPolitics co-founder and publisher Tom Bevan — none of whom immediately copped to the remark.

Kelly, who co-moderated the debate with Elizabeth Vargas and Eliana Johnson, was also joined by Emily Jashinsky of The Federalist.

Some DeSantis critics have mocked the governor for his purported awkward nature and lack of people skills, arguing he doesn’t have the charisma to be president.

The DeSantis campaign and NewsNation did not immediately respond to requests for comment about the exchange.

Body language expert Greg Hartley also criticized DeSantis’ bearing on the stage, calling him a “train wreck.”

“He doesn’t know what to do, and he’s not a dumb guy, but he is not comfortable in his own skin,” Hartley told The Post.

Hartley specifically called out the 45-year-old for “constant fidgeting,” pointing out that he often rubbed his thighs during the debate — which he said is a key indicator of “nervous energy.”

The governor also continued his habit of punctuating his words with head movements

“If you notice, most people when they’re illustrating, their hands are somewhere between their chin and their navel and they’re moving their hands around a lot,” Hartley said. “He did a fair amount of that until he got to points he’s very passionate about, and then he went right back to this head thing.”

Bevan and Stirewalt defended DeSantis’ performance on the panel with Kelly.

“I think DeSantis, this was probably his best debate,” Bevan said. “He was more comfortable. He obviously had command.”

“This was Ron DeSantis’ best debate,” Stirewalt agreed. “He was obviously mad. He was obviously [pissed off], and he brought that sort of intensity.”
