Scottish Open snooker 2023: Judd Trump hits 53rd century of season to whitewash Sydney Wilson in Edinburgh
Judd Trump cruised into the second round of the Scottish Open with an impressive 47-minute victory against Sydney Wilson in his Edinburgh opener.
The world No. 2 struck his 53rd century of the season as he breezed past the 33-year-old without reply, with Wilson – who is not on the tour – looking out of his comfort zone as he struggled to compete with Trump’s excellence.
After some poor positional play from Wilson early on, Trump capitalised and made a break of 79 to get the ball rolling and secure the opening frame.
He continued his fine start to the match in the second frame and looked on course for a maximum 147 break.
However, Trump opted for the pink midway through his knock, concluding with a 142 to move halfway to victory.
The third frame saw more beautiful snooker from Trump as Wilson couldn’t shake the nerves, missing a third easy pot as the match started to get away from him.
Trump knocked in a sensational brown on his way to wrapping up the third frame within 33 minutes and moving to within one of the second round.
More sloppiness from the underdog followed with another miss to right-middle as the pair played out what almost felt like a dead rubber of a fourth frame.
Trump sunk a red in the same pocket before breaking the pack, but handed control back to Wilson when the 2019 world champion opted for an awkward pot to the middle as he hunted a century.
But Wilson couldn’t take advantage as he missed a routine black off its spot and Trump cleared up from there.
Elsewhere on Monday night, Mark Allen is in action against Jamie Jones, while Kyren Wilson and John Higgins also play for a spot in the second round.
Earlier in the day, Luca Brecel and Mark Selby went through, while Mark Williams was dumped out by Sam Craigie.
