Female LAPD officer sues Losa Angeles after husband shares nudes with other cops
A female officer with the LAPD is suing the city of Los Angeles for sexual harassment a year after her husband — who is also an officer on the force — shared nude photos and videos of her with colleagues, according to a report.
The woman additionally accused the city’s police department of whistleblower retaliation and for failing to take the proper steps to prevent sexual harassment and retaliation, according to the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Wednesday, The Los Angeles Times reported.
Her husband, Brady Lamas, is currently awaiting trial on six counts of disorderly conduct for sharing “sexually explicit photographs and sexually explicit videos” of his wife to other LAPD officers without her consent, according to a December criminal complaint.
The woman, whose name has not been disclosed, is seeking unspecified damages in the suit.
Lamas allegedly shared the images in a group chat on the messaging app Kik between Dec. 29 2021 and Jan. 24, 2022, the LA County District Attorney’s Office said in a December 2022 release.
As a result of her husband’s actions, she was subject to sexual harassment from other officers in the department for more than a year, according to the Times.
She said she was initially confused when she was approached by male LAPD employees, who started at her “intently” and made comments like “Brady is a lucky man” and “He doesn’t know how good he has it,” according to an application for a restraining order against Lamas reviewed by the paper.
At the time, she was unaware that the men had seen the explicit photos of her, she said.
Lamas’ wife discovered the images on Jan. 30.
“My own husband is a predator and he preyed on me,” she wrote. “I would have preferred that he punched me in the face.”
Her lawsuit against the city alleges that LAPD “did nothing to ensure that the images would no longer be shared by any of the officers who had obtained them.”
On Jan. 31, 2022 — one day after his wife discovered the photos — Lamas was reassigned to home work pending an internal investigation, the department said at the time.
“The Department is fully cooperating with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the District Attorney’s Office with this matter and is troubled by the officer’s alleged off-duty conduct, which does not reflect the values of the Los Angeles Police Department,” the statement added.
