Republicans blast Biden for Virgin Islands holiday amid border crisis
House Republicans blasted President Biden for vacationing in the Caribbean, as the country continues to battle an unprecedented border crisis, ripping the holiday jaunt as a “dereliction of duty.”
Biden landed in St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands on Wednesday where he is staying rent-free at the beachfront home of wealthy friends — a trip comes as major US cities have become overrun by migrants coming across the southern border. In New York City,
“President Biden’s entire presidency has been a vacation from reality — 760,000 illegal immigrants have been encountered at the border since October,” Rep. Gary Palmer, R-Ala, thundered to Fox News in an article published Saturday.
That sentiment was also echoed by Texas GOP Rep. Randy Weber.
“President Biden’s dereliction of duty is on full display while he sits on the beach and ignores the thousands of illegal immigrants invading our country daily,” Weber said. “America as we know it will be unrecognizable unless this administration comes to the table, starts enforcing the laws and stops the flow of illegal immigrants.”
Rep. Mark Alford, another Texas Republican, added that “our borders are in shambles” and that the Biden administration “should be ashamed” of its performance on the issue.
There have been more than 276,000 migrant encounters in December, the highest on record so far.
In New York City, Mayor Adams has called for drastic cuts to police, libraries and school in an effort to reallocate more resources for migrant services.
Biden will remain on the island through Jan. 2. The president stayed at the luxe three-bedroom home of Bill and Connie Neville last year as well — making some news when one of his golf balls flew off course and was recovered by an 8-year-old boy.
