Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal up to second in World Cup after doubles success in Winterburg

Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal continued their positive start to the weekend with a doubles victory on home snow in Winterberg.

An eighth World Cup victory for the German pair means they have moved into second in the World Cup rankings thanks to their time of 1:27.131, which was enough to beat out the challenge of Italian duo Andrea Votter and Marion Oberhofer, who finished 0.024 seconds behind.

It was a highly competitive two runs, where the World Cup’s Austrian leaders Selina Egle and Lara Kipp improved the track record to 43.496 seconds and picked up bronze.

Austria would enjoy more success as the day continued as Madeleine Egle got her 11th World Cup victory in the women’s singles. Handicapped due to a shoulder injury, the 25-year-old finished 0.029 seconds ahead of Germany’s Julia Taubitz and fellow Austrian Hannah Prock, who reached the podium for the second time in her career.

Despite not getting gold, Taubitz maintains top spot in the overall standings.

After difficult outings in Lake Placid and Whistler, Egle is back in second spot with the USA’s Ashley Farquharson still third.

Austrian success was the theme of the day as Juri Thomas Gatt and Riccardo Martin Schoepf won gold in the men’s doubles thanks to two consistent runs which resulted in a time of 1:26.145.

After they finished second, World Cup leaders Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt will be wondering “what if” following two inconsistent runs.

Their opening gambit put them in seventh place, before going fastest on their second run to finish just 0.066 behind the winners. They were closely followed in third by compatriots Hannes Orlamuender and Paul Constantin Gubitz.
