Kelly Ripa has her funeral dress picked out so Mark Consuelos doesn’t dress her in ‘something crazy’
Over her dead body.
Kelly Ripa is ensuring she is dressed to the nines for her funeral. The 53-year-old host revealed that she already has a dress picked out for the future ceremony, just in case her husband is not up to the task.
“I’m so fearful if he has to eulogize me,” Ripa, explainred on the Friday, January 12, episode of “Live With Kelly and Mark.” “First of all, at the funeral, it’ll be a buffet of all my least favorite things. It’ll be deviled eggs, it’ll be chicken wings, it’ll be glasses of milk.”
Consuelos, who celebrated his 27th anniversary with Ripa in 2023, was quick to chime in and joked that his longtime leading lady wouldn’t be around to have any control over the festivities.
“Hey, watch out because I’m going to have to dress you as well,” he quipped. “You better be nice now or I’m going to put you in something crazy!”
But Ripa, who knows a thing or two about fashion, was not worried and informed Consuelos of something even crazier: she already has a dress labeled, hanging in her closet and ready to go.
“It’s a Dolce & Gabbana black dress,” Ripa revealed. “It’s 10 years old. It’s elegant, it’s gorgeous, it’s black, it’s adorable.”
During a previous episode in 2016, the “All My Children” alum explained to Michael Strahan, her co-host at the time, why she had already thought about her funeral.
“The only reason I thought about what I wanted to be buried in is because I once passed out … after I had my first child,” she recalled. “I passed out and my husband called 911 — and I was naked when I passed out. And in that time [before the paramedics arrived], he dressed me.”
Consuelos had dressed Ripa in a green leotard, a pair of black sweatpants and “red pumps.”
The mother of three children with whom she shares with Consuelos, Michael, 26, Lola, 22, and Joaquin, 20, was so embarrassed when she regained consciousness she attempted to conceal her identity from the public.
“As they were putting me on a stretcher, I remember pulling the sheet over my head because I didn’t want people to see me dressed this way. They kept pulling the sheet down, that means you’re dead,” she recalled. “And I’m like, please, I would rather be dead right now.”
“I’m serious, and when they took me into the emergency room … the nurses determined I must have been unconscious at some point because of the way that I was dressed,” she added. “And that made me a priority [in the E.R.] and why I picked out my funeral clothes.”
Ripa and Consuelos met on the set of the long-running ABC soap opera “All My Children in 1995. They eloped and got married in Las Vegas one year later.
