Newcastle determined to keep Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson in January transfer window – Paper Round
Newcastle determined to keep Trippier and Wilson
Newcastle United have no interest in selling either Kieran Trippier or Callum Wilson this January.
Trippier in particular is a wanted man, with Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid both interested in the defender.
“In a frantic 48 hours on Tyneside, Newcastle have fought to keep both of their England internationals after Bayern Munich made a bid for Trippier and news of an enquiry from Atletico Madrid earlier this month was also leaked.
“Trippier’s future was the main concern for the Newcastle hierarchy, with Bayern making a very public move to unsettle the right back.
“The 33-year-old was thought to have been tempted by the idea of joining England team-mates Harry Kane and Eric Dier in Munich but returned to Tyneside over the weekend for talks with the club.”
Al-Nassr make Royal bid
Emerson Royal was subject of a bid from Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, the club that employ Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Sun explains that a bid of £20 million was turned down for the defender.
“Al-Nassr made an offer – believed to be in the region of £20 million – for the Brazilian.
“They are understood to be weighing up a fresh offer for the versatile defender.
“Royal, 25, is believed to be happy in North London.
“He is behind Pedro Porro in the pecking order at right-back.
“But he has proved himself a player capable of filling in at left-back and centre-back this term when other players have been injured.”
City plan Savio signing
Manchester City could sign one of their sister side’s players this summer, according to the Mirror.
The paper writes that Troyes’ teenager Savio, on loan at Girona, could be brought to the Etihad in the summer.
“The 19-year-old Brazilian forward, who is currently registered to French side Troyes of the City Football Group, has dazzled in La Liga this term, scoring and assisting five times respectively. Savio is due to remain on loan at high-flying Girona until at least the end of the season despite widespread interest from across Europe.
“But beyond that, City hope to assume control of the player and he could even get the chance to shine in pre-season ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
“Sources suggest City’s thinking is that even if Savio does not make the grade under Pep Guardiola – he is a player that could earn them significant profit in the future.”
Villa make improved bid for Rogers
The Mail reports that Aston Villa have made a third bid for former Manchester City forward Morgan Rogers.
The Middlesbrough player has impressed with Michael Carrick’s men, and only arrive in the summer transfer window.
“Manchester City are due a sell-on fee if the 21-year-old, who cost Boro £1 million in the summer, leaves.
“Villa have also made an approach for Iceland goalkeeper Hakon Valdimarsson from Swedish top-flight side Elfsborg.
“Middlesbrough rejected Villa’s first two proposals, but Unai Emery is a huge fan, and Rogers was impressive whilst playing against them in the FA Cup at the start of the month.”
