Dana Carvey’s son Dex’s official cause of death revealed
Dana Carvey’s eldest son Dex’s official cause of death has been revealed.
The aspiring comedian died suddenly on Nov. 15, 2023. He was 32.
The LA County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Tuesday that Dex Carvey died from a lethal combination of fentanyl, ketamine, and cocaine.
His death is listed as accidental, according to the report.
Dex Carvey was an aspiring comedian, whose most notable gig was opening for his father’s 2016 Netflix special “Straight White Male.”
In the same year, he also appeared in the short film “Carpool Pandering,” directed by F. Clint DeNisco, opposite Dana.
On Nov. 15, emergency services found Dex Carvey unresponsive inside a locked bathroom after his girlfriend Kaylee called for help.
The “Wayne’s World” actor, 68, and his wife Paula confirmed their son’s death via a heartbreaking message on Instagram in November.
“Last night we suffered a terrible tragedy. Our beloved son, Dex, died of an accidental drug overdose. He was 32 years old,” they wrote.
“Dex packed a lot into those 32 years. He was extremely talented at so many things — music, art, filmmaking, comedy — and pursued all of them passionately.
“It’s not an exaggeration to say Dex loved life,” the “SNL” alum explained. “And when you were with him, you loved life too. He made everything fun. But most of all, he loved his family, his friends and his girlfriend Kaylee. Dex was a beautiful person.”
“His handmade birthday cards are a treasure,” they went on. “We will miss him forever.”
The pair concluded their statement by offering their “prayers” to “anyone struggling with addiction or who loves someone struggling with addiction.”
Days after his son’s death, Dana Carvey thanked fans on social media for their support during this time.
“This is just to say thank you,” the former “Saturday Night Live” comedian wrote in an Instagram post on Nov. 18. “My wife and I have been overwhelmed by your love, your personal stories, your compassion.”
According to TMZ, law enforcement sources reported that first responders rushed to his home in Los Angeles around 10 p.m.
Paramedics tried to revive him but were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
