Welsh Open snooker: Stuart Bingham and Zhou Yuelong tumble out of Welsh Open amid controversial concession calls

Stuart Bingham and Zhou Yuelong could be fined for conceding frames without needing snookers on a forgettable day for the duo in Welsh Open qualifying at the Barnsley Metrodome.

Bingham lost 4-1 to former Grand Prix winner Marco Fu, who top scored with a run of 93.

The 2015 world champion conceded the fifth frame and the match after missing a red along the top cushion while trailing 59-0 with a possible 75 remaining on the table.

The referee warned Bingham after the match, and former Northern Ireland Open finalist Zhou opted for similar action when trailing world No. 104 Adam Duffy 46-13 in the second frame with a possible 67 left up.

Both Bingham and Zhou will face automatic sanctions for their premature concession by the sport’s governing body with a formal disciplinary warning and/or a fine of £250 possible penalties for failing to adhere to the rule.

Elsewhere on Friday, Robbie Williams produced the highest break of the tournament with a superb 146 knock in a 4-0 win over Peng Yisong, while former British Open champion Ryan Day completed a 4-3 victory against Mostafa Dorgham of Egpyt.

World No. 1 Ronnie O’Sullivan and the rest of the world’s top 16 on the ranking list after the Scottish Open last month are due to begin their respective campaigns at the finals venue at Venue Cymru in Llandudno on Monday, February 12.
