Jarl Magnus Riiber and Mari Leinan Lund victorious at Nordic Combined World Cup in Schnonach

Jarl Magnus Riiber and Mari Leinan Lund were the victors in the latest instalment of the Nordic Combined World Cup in Schonach.

Riiber earned his eighth win of the season and third in a row by a cavernous margin of 73.8 seconds.

He jumped 108 metres in the morning and converted a nine-second ski advantage over Thomas Rettenegger into a comprehensive victory.

Rettenegger, who jumped 102m, won silver with Riiber joined on the podium by compatriot Joergen Graabak.

Norway’s extraordinary dominance of the women’s side of the sport has now seen them win 18 of the first 21 available World Cup medals.

The race for the overall World Cup win is a three-way shootout between Gyda Westvold Hansen, Ida Marie Hagen and Mari Leinan Lund, who have split the first seven races of the season.

But this was Lund’s day. Her 96-metre jump was the longest of the day and she held off a charging Hagen to win by 13 seconds.

Germany’s Nathalie Armbruster took bronze to ensure a rare non-Norwegian presence on the podium.
