Darius Rucker arrest: Marijuana, psychedelic pills found

Darius Rucker was allegedly caught with marijuana and psychedelic pills before his arrest in Tennessee on Thursday.

TMZ reports that the “Wagon Wheel” singer was actually in possession of the substances nearly a year ago on Feb. 19, 2023, and finally turned himself in on Thursday.

According to the arrest affidavit obtained by the outlet, police in Franklin, Tenn., pulled Rucker, 57, over last February after noticing his car had expired tags.

Officers claim they smelled weed coming from his vehicle, although Rucker reportedly replied “no” when asked if he had smoked that night. He did, however, allegedly admit that he may have smoked in his car the day prior.

Cops searched the car and found what they suspected to be a THC pen along with 14 unmarked purple pills, which the Hootie & the Blowfish frontman allegedly claimed were given to him by his girlfriend, Summer.

After an officer told Rucker that he would pat him down, the “Alright” singer allegedly handed him a small marijuana blunt from his pocket.

Officers released Rucker from the scene without charges, pending identification of the pills, which is standard procedure for this type of offense.

Police later tested the pill and identified them as psilocin — a Schedule I controlled substance similar to psilocybin or magic mushrooms.

Therefore, a warrant for his arrest was issued in December 2023.

“This case is still active and any documents related to the case are not public record at this time. However, we can confirm that Mr. Rucker was pulled over during a routine traffic stop,” a spokesperson for the Franklin PD told The Post on Friday. “He was released at the scene and turned himself in yesterday which is routine procedure for this type of offense.”

Rucker was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of simple possession/casual exchange of a controlled substance and one count of a violation of the state’s vehicle registration law.

He was released on a $10,500 bond.

The Post has contacted Rucker’s reps for comment.

His lawyer told The Post in a statement Thursday, “Darius Rucker is fully cooperating with authorities related to misdemeanor charges.”
