‘Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan ‘requested a PG’ season 3 for her Mom

Dearest readers, if Nicola Coughlan had it her way, season three of “Bridgeton” would be a lot less spicy.

“I requested a PG version for my mammy because I am not doing that,” Coughlan, 37, jokingly said to Australia’s Today FM on Wednesday, February 14. “If you want to watch it with your mum and dad, go for it, [but] having seen bits… No way, no, no, no, no, no.”

The hit Netflix series finally follows the love story between Penelope Featherington (Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) after focusing on Daphne Bridgerton’s love story with the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page) in season one and the romance between Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley of “Sex Education”) in season two.

Newton, 31, also shared Coughlan’s sentiments and revealed that he won’t even watch the second episode with his mother. Coughlan agreed, “Nope, I won’t.”

Coughlan revealed that she usually fast-forwards through any steamy scenes when watching with family to save herself from embarrassment, ironically making the episodes much shorter.

“Yeah, it’s gonna be like, ‘Oh, that was a big bit we missed,’” Coughlan added. “But, even in season 1, I skipped bits with my mum. She was like, ‘That episode was short,’ and I was like, ‘It was a short one. It was a short one. Yeah.’”

In December, Netflix announced that season three will premiere in two parts, with the first hitting on May 16 and the second dropping on June 13. Both parts will have four episodes each.

“Gentle reader, you thought I was silenced, but you thought wrong,” Julie Andrews, the voice of Lady Whistledown, says in the teaser.

After loving Colin endlessly in the first two seasons, season three begins with Coughlan’s Penelope seemingly over Colin.

“She has, however, decided it’s time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters,” a summary provided by Netflix explained. “But lacking in confidence, Penelope’s attempts on the marriage mart fail spectacularly.”

“Meanwhile, Colin has returned from his summer travels with a new look and a serious sense of swagger. But he’s disheartened to realize that Penelope, the one person who always appreciated him as he was, is giving him the cold shoulder,” the synopsis explains. “Eager to win back her friendship, Colin offers to mentor Penelope in the ways of confidence to help her find a husband this season. But when his lessons start working a little too well, Colin must grapple with whether his feelings for Penelope are truly just friendly.”

“Complicating matters for Penelope is her rift with Eloise (Claudia Jessie), who has found a new friend in a very unlikely place, while Penelope’s growing presence in the ton makes it all the more difficult to keep her Lady Whistledown alter ego a secret,” Netflix states.

For Coughlan, season three was very special.

“I always look at the three seasons like this. I think season 1 was about passion, season 2 was about longing and season 3, I think it’s romance all the way,” she told People. “It’s just so romantic. There were a lot of moments on set where we filmed something and we’d turn around and everyone was sort of clutching their chest being like ‘Oh my God.’ It was that kind of love.”

“It’s really special and it stays very true to the books,” she added. “We had one of the best times filming it and it’s one of the best experiences I’ve ever had, for sure.”
