‘Can I have all three?’ – Demi Vollering eyes Tour de France, Olympics and rainbow jersey treble in 2024

Demi Vollering’s stellar 2023 season will not be easy to top.

Vollering’s palmares last year included the three Ardennes classics – the Amstel Gold Race, La Fleche Wallonne Feminine and Liege–Bastogne–Liege Femmes – the Tour de France, the Vuelta a Burgos, and the Dutch national championships.

But if any year gives Vollering a chance to go even better, it’s 2024.

“This year is going to be a very special year,” Vollering, 27, told Eurosport.

“There’s the Olympics, the Tour de France, with the start in Rotterdam where I was born really close to, which will be so special for me, then after that we have the World Championships in Switzerland where I live at the moment.

“The Olympics is so special because it’s only once every four years, the Tour is also something I am really focused for, then the World Championships…it’s a big dream for me to have that [rainbow] jersey on.

“Can I have the three of them? Is that OK?”

If 2023 is anything to go by then a Vollering treble can’t be ruled out.

The SD Worx rider emerged as the dominant force in women’s cycling last year and is hoping to keep the momentum going.

“Let’s hope we can pick up where we stopped last year,” she says.

“This will be really hard but we will try our best for this and I just really hope we are in that really nice flow, but this is something we need to experience.

“We have such a nice team so we need to make sure it stays really nice. We need to really pay attention to try to communicate well with each other so everyone knows what is going on, not that you think it’s good and don’t invest in it anymore. You always need to keep investing into the team and this is really important I think. That’s what we will do this coming year.”

‘I still can’t believe it’ – Vollering after winning Tour de France Femmes

Vollering is set to start her 2024 season at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad on February 24.

Her best result at the race was two years ago when she finished second, while last year she came 17th and SD Worx team-mate Lotte Kopecky took the win.

After Omloop Het Nieuwsblad the season starts rolling with races coming thick and fast throughout spring.

Explaining her schedule, Vollering said: “The first part of the season I think again will be the Ardennes, I really like them, I want to be very good there.

“But also we have some really nice races before like Strade [Bianche Donne], Flanders, they are all really nice races that I like a lot, so I really hope we can win those races again with the team.”
