Doug Emhoff says he and Kamala Harris are ‘living’ out ‘VEEP’
Has he seen the show?
Second gentleman Doug Emhoff on Monday likened his life with Vice President Kamala Harris over the last three years to the absurdities that play out on the political satire show “Veep.”
Emhoff, 59, provided the revealing glimpse into his experience at the White House when asked by “Watch What Happens Live” host Andy Cohen if he’s ever watched the award-winning HBO comedy.
“Do you watch ‘Veep’?” Cohen asked Emhoff.
To which the second gentleman responded, “We’re living it.”
“Veep” follows the life of the fictional Vice President Selina Meyer, played by actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
On the show, Meyer fumbles her way to power, eventually – spoiler alert – becoming president despite her frequent gaffes, impulsive behavior and quickness to take offense.
Like Harris, Meyer is the country’s first female vice president, and the character’s awkward tendencies are often compared by the show’s fans to Harris’ predilections.
Meyer’s often convoluted and nonsensical speech patterns have been likened to Harris’ frequent word salad remarks.
Emhoff was also asked by Cohen if he and his wife ever go on double dates with the president and first lady Jill Biden.
“We’re working so hard, but we’re with them all the time,” the second gentleman responded. “The four of us together, it’s great.”
He also noted that Jill Biden is his favorite former second lady.
“She’s awesome,” he said about the now first lady.
Emhoff and Jill Biden were caught sharing an awkward kiss on the lips and holding hands at President Biden’s State of the Union address last year.
