GOP lawmakers demand detailed info from Biden admin on how Georgia nursing student Laken Riley’s alleged killer entered the US 

Republican lawmakers on Tuesday demanded that the Biden administration provide Congress with detailed information on how the Venezuelan national suspected of murdering Georgia nursing student Laken Riley illegally entered the US. 

Impeached Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was asked to provide lawmakers with Jose Antonio Ibarra’s immigration records, including the 26-year-old murder suspect’s “alien file,” immigration detention status and history.

The locations of all of Ibarra’s entries into the US and whether Customs and Border Protection officials were aware of any “derogatory information” during his screening process were also demanded by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement Subcommittee Chairman Tom McClintock (R-Ga.).

“Criminal aliens exploit vulnerabilities in our nation’s immigration system to the detriment of those in the United States,” Jordan and McClintock wrote a letter to Mayorkas.

“The Biden Administration’s border and immigration policies only increase the likelihood that criminal aliens will successfully enter and remain in the US.” 

The congressmen asked Mayorkas to provide the information his department has on Ibarra by March 12, in order to assist in the Judiciary Committee’s “continued oversight of federal immigration policy and procedures.” 

In a separate letter to Mayorkas, sent by House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green (R-Tenn.), the DHS chief was asked to turn over all documents and communications between his office and Customs and Border Protection and Immigration and Customs Enforcement related to Ibrarra. 

Green asked for the Venezuelan national’s immigration records as well, and any officer notes related to Ibarra. 

“This tragedy further underscores the Committee’s serious concerns about the security of our nation, and the potential for criminal aliens to take advantage of the glaring vulnerabilities created by the Biden administration’s open-border policies,” Green wrote. 

Ibrarra entered the US illegally in El Paso, Texas, on Sept. 8, 2022, with his wife and her son seeking asylum, and was later released “for further processing,” according to ICE. 

He was charged with a felony in New York last August after allegedly allowing his 5-year-old stepson to ride with him on a scooter without a safety helmet or required child restraints, according to police, but skirted deportation.

Ibarra was arrested again last week in Athens-Clarke County, Georgia, and charged with the kidnapping and murder of Riley. 

He allegedly killed Riley — a 22-year-old August University student — while she was jogging on the University of Georgia campus in Athens, which she had previously attended. 

“The brutal murderer who took the life of Laken was one of the millions of illegal aliens that the Biden Administration simply released and unleashed upon our country,” House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said last week.
