Cross-Country Skiing: Norway and Sweden roar to team sprint classic gold medals in Lahti
Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo and Paal Golberg led a Norwegian one-two in the men’s team sprint classic in Lahti.
The duo stormed to World Cup gold in a time of 16:56.74, beating their counterparts Haavard Solaas Taugboel and Even Northug by 4.08 seconds.
But the moment of the race came in the race bronze as Finland’s Iivo Niskanen and Lauri Vuorinen edged an incredible battle with France’s Jules Chappaz and Richard Jouve by just one hundredth of a second in a dramatic photo finish on home soil.
In the women’s event, Jonna Sundling and Linn Svahn of Sweden clinched gold in a dominating time of 18:51.77.
Sundling said: “The tactics were ‘just be fast’. We had a really good day and I think we could ski as we wanted.”
The pair stormed to victory, their closest competitors Krista Parmakoski and Johanna Matintalo of Finland finishing 24.75 seconds behind.
In another tense battle for bronze, three different teams crossed the line in 19:17, but it was German duo Katharina Hennig and Laura Gimmler who took the spoils for third.
