Dylan Mulvaney releases new song ‘Days of Girlhood’ months after Bud Light backlash

Girls just wanna have fun.

Dylan Mulvaney has released a new song, called “Days of Girlhood.”

The transgender influencer and TikTok star, 27, released the music video for her new song on Wednesday, which features Mulvaney dancing a mini dress, a crop top, a green polka dot dress, and a hot pink negligee.

“Every day, every night, rise and shine, yeah, all mine. Thick or thin, I’ll be alright. Got my dolls by my side,” she sings.

“Last year, extremists turned my series Days of Girlhood into something to be ashamed of,’ Mulvaney said in an Instagram video, referring to her TikTok video series, also called “Days of Girlhood.”

Mulvaney rose to national attention after starring in Bud Light ads on social media, which showed her cracking open a can of Bud Light in honor of March Madness and celebrating “365 Days of Girlhood.”

This caused conservative consumers to boycott the brand, and that knocked the beer out of its top-selling spot for the first time in over two decades. Following the controversy, Modelo Especial knocked off Bud Light from its decades-long spot as the nation’s top-selling beer.

Most recently, Bud Light parent Anheuser-Busch said it’s planning to lay off nearly 400 corporate and marketing roles at its major US offices. Bud Light has yet to see a week since April where sales edged higher year-over-over.

In June 2023, Mulvaney slammed Bud Light, saying its lack of response to the boycotts has “given customers permission to be as transphobic and as hateful as they want.”

The social media star posted an emotional Instagram video to her 1.8 million followers, tearfully revealing that she has been “ridiculed in public” and has “felt a loneliness that I wouldn’t wish on anyone.”

“For a company to hire a trans person and then not publicly stand by them is worse than not hiring a trans person at all,” Mulvaney said in the clip.

In April 2023, Anheuser-Busch CEO Brendan Whitworth said the company “never intended to be part of a discussion that divides people. We are in the business of bringing people together over a beer.”

Mulvaney’s June 2023 comments came just days after Whitworth refused to say whether the company would ever work with Mulvaney again. The beer giant suffered a $20 billion hit after calls to boycott the brand, in the wake of its former partnership with Mulvaney.

“I’ve been scared to leave my house,” she added in her 2023 video. “Supporting trans people shouldn’t be political. There should be nothing divisive or controversial about working with us.”

Bud Light’s sales for the week ended June 20 down 28.5% from a year ago.

Kid Rock went viral for shooting cans of Bud Light in a video, in a dramatic protest against the brand for its partnership with Mulvaney.

Early in the controversy, the company did not disavow its partnership with Mulvaney. It said that it was one of many such promotional partnerships meant to “authentically connect with audiences across various demographics and passion points,” a spokesperson said in a statement.

The boycott may have cost Bud Light parent Anheuser-Busch as much as $1.4 billion in sales.

Lady Gaga has publicly defended Mulvaney, after posting a photo with her for International Women’s Day, which also got backlash.

“It’s appalling to me that a post about National Women’s Day by Dylan Mulvaney and me would be met with such vitriol and hatred. When I see a newspaper reporting on hatred but calling it ‘backlash’ I feel it is important to clarify that hatred is hatred, and this kind of hatred is violence.

“‘Backlash’ would imply that people who love or respect Dylan and me didn’t like something we did. This is not backlash. This is hatred,” Gaga wrote on Instagram.

In her video on Wednesday announcing her new single, Mulvaney said, “This single came from my desire to reclaim my relationship to femininity and celebrate trans joy. I had never written a song before, but I knew I wanted it to feel like the opening of an early 2000s romantic comedy.”
