Taco Bell runs out of trending Mexican Pizza
This Taco Bell customer is taking “Live Mas” literally.
A fast-food fan embodied Taco Bell’s motto, apparently ordering 180 of its “Mexican Pizza” in one go — as the chain has been running out of the viral menu item, according to a report.
The company put Mexican Pizza back on the menu in May, but the return was short-lived as restaurants started to sell out, Marketwatch said.
“Our restaurant teams trained weeks for what we knew would be a big return. We just didn’t realize how big,” Taco Bell said, adding that “one fan’s order included 180 Mexican Pizzas.”
The dish, made with seasoned beef and refried beans wrapped in two fried flour tortillas topped with pizza sauce, a three-cheese blend and fresh diced tomatoes, has people getting real hungry.
Fans, who waited two years for the menu item’s return, created petitions to “Bring back the Mexican Pizza!” and tweeted to get Taco Bell’s attention.
“Demand was more than seven times than it was the last time it was on our menu,” the company said on its website.
One chain restaurant in Roseville, CA reportedly sold over 1,000 pizzas in one day.
A few Taco Bell locations may have the pizza in stock, but many hungry fans craving the dish are demanding to know when they can join the line.
“We’re working diligently with our restaurants and suppliers to get more back in the hands and stomachs of our biggest fans by this fall,” Taco Bell said.
The company added that fans no longer have to fear going without their favorite dish because Mexican Pizza will have a “permanent residency on the Taco Bell menu” moving forward.
