Ex-NBA coach Stan Van Gundy blasted for biblical meme of Biden’s loan relief plan
Former NBA coach Stan Van Gundy tried to use the Bible story of the loaves and fishes to mock criticism of President Biden’s student-loan forgiveness plan – only to be smote by the wrath of Twitter.
Van Gundy — who used to coach the Orlando Magic and is the older brother of former Knicks coach Jeff Van Gundy — posted a meme featuring a depiction of Jesus in the story, writing, “Jesus’s miracle of the loaves and fishes was a slap in the face to all the people who brought their own lunch.”
He headlined the posting: “Republican logic.”
The posting was apparently meant to ridicule critics of the relief plan, who have claimed it is unfair to those who already paid off their loans, attended less expensive schools or took a different career path.
Twitter immediately began crying foul on Stan.
“The college educated aren’t the poor and helpless! Waiters and laborers are paying the bills of doctors and lawyers,” one person tweeted.
Another tweeter followed that line of thought.
“[Jesus] made the fish and bread from nothing. It was not redistributed and forcibly taken from working class people,” the posting said.
One person asked: “Where did the loaves and fishes come from, Stan?”
Conservative writer Ron Bassilian added, “Love this.”
”1. The left thinks government is God 2. The left thinks social programs are miracles and don’t obey the laws of thermodynamics,” Bassilian said on Twitter.
