Woman orders $300 steak at anniversary dinner, sparks debate

Talk about raising the steaks.

A woman out on her second anniversary dinner with her significant other accidentally ordered a $300 steak — sparking a spirited online debate.

Daniela, known on TikTok as @ikingdani, and her boyfriend were celebrating their relationship milestone when he suggested she order the Wagyu sirloin, a typically pricy, top-grade cut of meat. However, she unintentionally ordered an 8-ounce Wagyu steak, causing the bill to jump to well over $400.

The video went viral and has served up nearly 2.2 million views and scored 191,700 likes.

“My plate was $312 and his was $48,” wrote Daniela in an overlay of text on the video.

The video then showed Daniela’s partner jokingly shaking his head as he inserted his card to pay for the meal.

“I thought he was going to break up with me,” she said in the video.

Daniela later confirmed that the entire thing had been an accident. “I walked out the restaurant crying,” she wrote. “He [held] my hand while I was tearing up and told me we were going to laugh about it in a couple of months.”

If the bill wasn’t shocking enough, the video has since sparked a debate over who should have paid.

“You should’ve offered to pay half. That’s a big bill,” one user admonished.

“I would have press ‘split bill’ SOOOO FAST,” said another.

Meanwhile, others said she was not to blame and that it was the server’s fault.

“The server should’ve confirmed that’s what you meant to order given the disparity in the dishes,” defended a user.

“I’ve been a server and I would have verified in a nonchalant way, ‘I just want to confirm you want the 8oz Waygu that’s listed on page xyz,’ ” another said.

One user expressed their sympathy toward the couple saying the same thing had happened to them.

“That happened to me too,” one user quipped.

“I thought it was $50, turned out it was $50 PER OUNCE!”

To add in-salt to injury, Daniela revealed that she didn’t even enjoy the meal.

“It was the 8 slices of wagyu and some tiny leaves on the side with salt,” Daniela said.

“Trust me it wasn’t even good.”
