Nicole Brown Simpson’s sister slams Chris Rock for murder joke

Nicole Brown Simpson’s sister, Tanya, slammed comedian Chris Rock Wednesday over an insensitive joke he made about her sister’s murder.

Tanya Brown told TMZ that the joke wasn’t only not funny, but it didn’t make sense.

The 57-year-old comedian was performing in Phoenix, Arizona, on Sunday when he revealed that he was asked to host the 2023 Oscars after he was slapped by Will Smith.

Rock then said that he would not go back to the Academy Awards because it would be like asking Nicole Simpson “to go back to the restaurant” where she left her eyeglasses before she was killed.

Simpson was killed in 1994, at age 35, in a brutal double homicide. Her ex-husband O.J. Simpson was accused of the murders and stood trial in a spectacle that captivated the nation, and he was famously acquitted.

Brown said that equating getting slapped at the Oscars to a double murder is “apples to oranges,” TMZ reported.

Simpson’s sister told the outlet that the pain from the murder is still fresh for several surviving family members and that jokes like this still hit close to home — and hurt.

Rock received backlash for the joke with several fans saying it was insensitive, too.

“The more Chris Rock talks, the more you begin to see why Will Smith smacked fire outta him,” tweeted one user.

“Comparing what happened to him to what happened to Nicole Brown Simpson is truly tasteless and not at all funny,” said another.

Tanya Brown also told TMZ that she belives Rock could have picked another punchline to drive home his point — and also believes comedians, including Rock, “should be held accountable.”
