La Vuelta 2022 – Remco Evenepoel recovers from crash to lay down marker, Richard Carapaz wins Stage 12

Richard Carapaz (Ineos Grenadiers) won Stage 12 of La Vuelta on a day when Remco Evenepoel (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) showed his mettle to recover from a crash to maintain his advantage in the general classification.

An early break of 32 was whittled down to 10 ahead of the final climb. And it was left to Carapaz to solo to victory, with Wilco Kelderman (BORA-hansgrohe) second and Marc Soler (UAE Team Emirates) third.

However, the most dramatic moment of the race came with 45km of the stage left. Evenepoel crashed on a right-hand bend, losing the front wheel and suffering a cut on his knee and a tear in his shorts.
