Mom accused of throwing Satanic birthday party for toddler
A mother has incurred the fiery wrath of social media watchdogs after throwing what appeared to be a Satanic-themed birthday party for her 1-year-old daughter.
Janeth Zapata shared photos of her daughter Lilith celebrating her first birthday in a black outfit at the party decorated with black and pink decor, including a piñata resembling Baphomet, a goat-headed deity used in occult rituals.
A now-viral TikTok video — which has racked up more than 2.3 millions views as of Tuesday afternoon — is captioned, “Rumors say I had the best outfit for my first birthday,” and then goes on to flash a slideshow of pictures from the controversial celebration with Adele’s hit song “Rumors” blaring on the soundtrack.
The photographs and footage show Lilith posing by what appears to be a Satanic star used for sacrifices, digging into a cake topped with a pentagram made of icing and breaking into the Baphomet piñata.
The Mexican mother also shared a snapshot of the invite which describes Lilith as “Cute as hell” before welcoming guests to the celebration that took place this past July.
Social media users noted that the birthday girl shares the same name as the female demonic figure of Jewish folklore who has become a commercial sign of Satanism.
“I really don’t know what went through the mom’s mind,” Lorena Salazar commented on the video.
Susely Cardenas wrote, “That wasn’t a birthday party, that was a sacrifice.”
The barrage of judgmental and negative comments that Zapata received pushed her to publicly defend herself and her family.
“I see there are many news sites that put out my daughter’s party with lies,” she told CEN.
“1. We’re not Satanists. 2. There were guests. 3. The party didn’t have anything Satanic. 4. The piñata isn’t Satan, nor the Devil, it’s Baphomet. 5. The pentagram isn’t inverted because it’s not Satanic.”
