Georgia woman Caitlin Jensen moved to rehab after being left paralyzed from routine chiropractor visit

The Georgia woman who was left paralyzed and unable to speak after receiving a routine neck adjustment at a chiropractor has been transferred to a rehab facility where she’s begun her long road to recovery.

Caitlin Jensen, 28, who graduated from Georgia Southern University in May, had four arteries in her neck dissected after a visit to a Savannah chiropractor on June 16, which led to cardiac arrest, a stroke and traumatic brain injury.

After weeks in the ICU at Memorial Health in Savannah, she was moved to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta this week where she is undergoing speech, occupational, physical and recreational therapy, her mother, Darlene Jensen, told WJCL.

“I try not to look too far ahead, because that can be very overwhelming,” she told the outlet. “Every morning, we get up, we pick an outfit, we get dressed for the day, we get to work, we do the therapy. And it goes by quite quickly. The days kinda fly by.”

Jensen lost her pulse for a full 10 minutes before doctors revived her and rushed her into surgery, placing a stent in one of the arteries. Doctors believe she suffered a stroke as a result of the neck manipulation, her mother said.

She is able to respond to verbal commands by blinking and giving a thumbs up or thumbs down but is unable to move the rest of her body, according to a GoFundMe page for Jensen, which has raised over $100,000.

“There’s a lot to deal with for her now. It’s been a really big transition for her. Coming out of the ICU and that isolation, and then coming into a rehab setting,” said Darlene Jensen, who has been out of work since her daughter’s injury.

“I credit her a great deal for her attitude. I think that her positive spirit and attitude has really helped a lot,” she added.
