I’m leaving my boyfriend — so we went on a ‘breakup vacation’ together
It’s a different kind of couples vacation.
A TikTok user has gone viral after revealing she and her soon-to-be ex-boyfriend embarked on a “breakup getaway” after deciding to end their relationship.
Piper Riley Thompson, who hails from Canada, dished details on the unorthodox weekend escape in a clip that has clocked up more than 4 million views since it was posted on Monday.
The viral vacay footage featured Thompson holding hands with her partner as they looked out over a gloomy landscape while cuddled up in bed together.
“Me and my boyfriend are breaking up in 2 weeks,” the soon-to-be singleton wrote. “We went on a beautiful breakup weekend getaway. We cuddled in this spot reminiscing. We talked about all of our fears, our plans for healing, and what we hope for our futures.”
“It was heartbreaking and healing all at once,” Thompson poignantly added.
Thompson didn’t disclose the reason behind their imminent breakup, but hinted that a career change may have contributed to the decision to split.
In a separate video posted earlier this month, the 28-year-old TikToker revealed that she recently quit her career in the legal field after realizing she wasn’t “happy” as a lawyer.
Meanwhile, in an additional clip, Thompson disclosed that she was leaving the unidentified area where they reside. “I was supposed to move in with my boyfriend today. Instead, he’s helping me pack up as I move to a new city and we prepare to breakup,” she wrote.
Viewers were divided by the couple’s decision to take a breakup vacation, with several saying the idea was their worst nightmare.
“Cannot think of anything worse than this,” one bluntly stated.
“That’s the worst thing ever on earth,” another chimed in. “I can’t imagine a more painful thing to put yourself through.”
Meanwhile, one was baffled as to why the pair had decided to split when they still appeared to get on so well.
“I’m sorry, new here. WHY are we scheduling a breakup when you clearly still love each other?” they asked.
However, others praised the move, calling it “mature” and “considerate” — but advised Thompson to take care of herself in the weeks and months ahead.
“A healthy breakup is so much harder than a toxic one,” one sympathizer stated.
