New York actors among the most foul-mouthed in movie history

Actors born in The Empire State are big fans of curse words.

A new study by Crossword-Solver reviewed almost 3,000 movie scripts to find the actors that have dropped the most F-bombs in their careers, as well as the old favorites “sh–” and “hell.”

Starting with the F-word, Newark-born Joe Pesci has dropped the explicative 272 times in all of his movies – more than any other actor.

While the actor was infamous for his F-word rant in “Goodfellas” as gangster Tommy DeVito — “You said I’m funny. How the f – – k am I funny, what the f – – k is so funny about me?” — it’s actually not his most cuss-laden movie.

Pesci actually uttered the “F-dash-dash-dash” word 241 times in 1995’s “Casino” alone.

After “Casino”‘s almost unbeatable count, NYC- born Al Pachino used the four-letter word the second most of any other actor with 197 total times throughout his career. Sixty-eight of those came from his role as Benjamin ‘Lefty’ Ruggiero in “Donnie Brasco.”

However, when it comes to “hell,” Pachino is the clear winner. He’s said h-e-double hockey sticks more than any other actor with 49 quips in all of his films. The most in any one movie is 23, with Pacino in “Any Given Sunday” tied with Leonardo DiCaprio’s “The Aviator.” Dennis Quaid rounds out the top three with 38 mentions.

Moving onto “s – – t,” Mount Vernon-native Denzel Washington has delivered the word the most than any other actor with a career total of 84, including 56 in “Training Day” in 2001.

Jason Mewes and Seth Rogan fall just behind, in second and third respectively, both with 80 “s – – ts” given in their movies.

Shia LeBeouf occupies the third place by saying the word 79 total times — and 32 in “Honey Boy” itself.

Interestingly, Georgia native Julia Roberts is the only female actor to be in the top 25 for “s – – t” and “hell.”

She cusses the most in the 2000 movie “Erin Brockovich,” uttering “hell” 16 times out of her career-long 23, and “s–t” 26 times of her overall 40 mentions.

The most shocking finding? Swear-happy actor Samuel L. Jackson found himself towards the end of the lists, despite having personally taught a MasterClass in the art of swearing.

For “s – – t,” he placed in sixth with 58 total — 33 in “Pulp Fiction.” He placed 20th wit 85 total “f – – ks” and nowhere on the list for “hell.”
