Daycare under investigation after videos appear to show child abuse
A North Carolina church daycare employee is under investigation for suspected child abuse after videos emerged showing him yanking a kid by the arm and pulling another youngster’s hair.
The Nash County Sheriff’s Office opened a child abuse investigation at Corinth Baptist Daycare in Nashville last week after videos surfaced on social media showing a facility employee apparently mishandling children, local outlet WRAL reported Tuesday.
In one of the videos, which were both allegedly taken in July, the employee appears to yank a child by his arm in an effort to discipline him. Another clip shows the individual pulling a girl by her hair.
The footage was taken by another daycare employee, who told WRAL that her initial reports were ignored by the facility.
The sheriff’s office said the employee resigned once the videos came to light.
In an email to parents, Corinth Baptist Daycare confirmed that the facility would be closed through this week.
Located in a small brick building on State Highway 58, Corinth Baptist Daycare pledges to provide “quality Christian daycare” where children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old can “grow spiritually, socially, emotionally and cognitively.”
A report on ChildcareCenter.us revealed that the center had several inspection violations in the last couple years alone.
An unannounced inspection in June 2021 found that providers in the center’s infant room had not completed the necessary ITS-SIDS training in a timely manner. In May 2022, officials found that dangerous substances such as corrosive cleaners were not properly locked away, and that furniture was not stable and secure.
The sheriff’s office and the daycare did not respond to requests for comment Wednesday.
