‘Harry Potter’ star Ralph Fiennes defends JK Rowling

“Harry Potter” star Ralph Fiennes defended JK Rowling on Tuesday, saying that the abuse and death threats the author has received are “disgusting” and “appalling.”

Fiennes — who played the Dark Wizard Lord Voldemort in the film franchise based on Rowling’s books — discussed his feelings about the author while promoting his new film, reports Variety.

“JK Rowling has written these great books about empowerment, about young children finding themselves as human beings,” said Fiennes.

“It’s about how you become a better, stronger, more morally centered human being. The verbal abuse directed at her is disgusting, it’s appalling.”

Fiennes is one of several “Potter” stars to come out in support of the author. Other stars include the late Robbie Coltrane and Miriam Margolyes.

“I mean, I can understand a viewpoint that might be angry at what she says about women,” continued the 59-year-old “Skyfall” actor.

“But it’s not some obscene, über-right-wing fascist. It’s just a woman saying, ‘I’m a woman and I feel I’m a woman and I want to be able to say that I’m a woman.’ And I understand where she’s coming from. Even though I’m not a woman.”

The Post reached out to Fiennes for comment.

Rowling has been subjected to several backlashes on Twitter for comments made about trans women and even has received death threats after someone on Twitter responded to her tweet in support of Salman Rushdie and subsequent attempted murder, “Don’t worry you are next.”

“Righteous anger is righteous, but often it becomes kind of dumb because it can’t work its way through the gray areas. It has no nuance,” said Fiennes.
