Rider, spectators injured in Surfers Paradise motorcycle crash
A motorcycle stunt has gone awry on the Surfers Paradise, leaving a rider and a number of crowd members injured.
The stuntman’s bike careered into a metal barrier, after coming down a ramp in front of the McDonald’s on Cavill Ave.
The vehicle lost control and hit a guardrail fence, collecting some of the crowd standing behind it.
Three people were hit on impact.
The rider and a spectator were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital and are currently in stable condition after being treated for soft tissue injuries.
The incident occurred at 5.20 p.m (AEDT).
Several locals reported hearing a commotion along The Esplanade as sirens roared and emergency services rushed to the accident site.
“We didn’t get here until after it happened, but we’ve definitely heard about it,” one spectator told the Courier Mail.
“We saw (the video) on the news and thought, ‘What’s going on there?’.
“We’re only staying a few streets over, so we walked down to check it out.”
