Two Montana health workers dead in murder-suicide: cops

A Montana clinic manager opened fire on her doctor husband in the driveway of a VRBO rental before fleeing to a nearby reservoir and turning the gun on herself, cops said.

Jason Jones, 53, was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds just four hours before Kimberli Jones’ body was discovered miles away at the Hyalite reservoir on Oct. 18, the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office said.

“Obviously, we believe this was a murder-suicide,” Sheriff Dan Springer said at a press conference, though added the investigation is still ongoing.

A neighbor called police just before 7 p.m. after witnessing Kimberli shoot Jason in the Gallatin Canyon area in a rental home they had been staying at, Springer said.

The witness then saw Kimberli jump in a pick-up truck and flee before officers arrived to find her deceased husband.

Later that night, a hiker found Kimberli outside of the truck dead from a self-inflicted wound at the Hyalite reservoir, located about 20 miles from where Jason was found.

There is no cell service in the reservoir, so it took some time for police to be alerted to Kimberli’s whereabouts, Springer said.

Police believe the gun used was owned by Kimberli.

The couple had both worked at Bozeman Health, a hospital company headquartered 20 miles north of the scene of the tragic murder-suicide.

Jason served as a primary care physician at multiple care sites. Kimberli had recently stepped down as a clinic operations manager, the corporation confirmed.
