Actor Jonathan Majors dumped by Marvel after assault conviction

Marvel supervillain Jonathan Majors was dumped by the Disney-owned studio immediately after the actor was convicted of assault and harassment Monday, according to a person familiar with the situation.

The rising star was cast to become the overarching bad guy  Kang the Conqueror in upcoming Marvel films after debuting the role in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” as well as both seasons of “Loki.” 

He was also signed to appear as the time-traveling supervillain in “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” in 2026 and “Avengers: Secret Wars” in 2027.

It is unclear whether Marvel will now recast the role – which could prove difficult considering the baggage created by Majors – or rewrite the future projects for a different Marvel baddie. 

“I think his career is over,” one longtime Hollywood agent told The Post.

Another insider agreed, adding: “Jonathan is going to need all his superpowers to keep his job after this verdict. Disney has no choice but to dump him. Jonathan can expect all the fancy invites and events to no longer want him around. You can get away with a lot in Hollywood, hitting your girlfriend isn’t one of them”

“Disney has invested a huge amount of time and resources in Jonathan. He was their ‘it’ boy – now he couldn’t get a job at one of their theme parks!”

Neither Marvel nor Disney commented.

Majors was found guilty of assault and harassment of his then-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, inside a hired car in New York City. He faces up to a year in jail when he is sentenced.

Execs at Disney had already shelved another film starring Majors, “Magazine Dreams,” a drama about an aspiring bodybuilder, after the actor was arrested in March.

Majors, who gained prominence with his starring role in “Lovecraft Country,” was dropped by his publicists, the Lede Company, and management, Entertainment 360, before he went on trial.

Talent agency CAA also reportedly dropped Majors before his arrest for “brutal conduct” towards its staff, Variety reported in a story detailing Marvel’s issues related to the actor and problems at the studio.

In recent months, the lucrative Marvel studio, which is known for churning out blockbuster hits like the “Iron Man” franchise and the wildly successful “Avengers: Endgame” that reeled in a whopping $2.8 billion at the box office, has been plagued by a spate of box office flops.

The poor showing at the box office by “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” was partially  blamed on the Majors’ headline-grabbing arrest.

The studio’s latest flick, “The Marvels,” which opened on Nov. 10, opened with just $47 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates, for instance. 

“Getting rid of Majors is the least of Disney’s problems,” added the insider, noting that Disney CEO Bob Iger has to find a way to reignite Marvel’s box office magic. 

“Disney will be fine,” the source said. “They had to get rid of him. Good for them.”
