Alan Stubbs launches scathing attack on Everton owners – ‘This is a brilliant football club and it’s getting destroyed’

Former Everton defender Alan Stubbs has launched a scathing attack on the club’s owners, accusing Farhad Moshiri of “consistently getting it wrong”.

Angry Everton supporters took part in a protest march against the club’s owners and board of directors ahead of the Premier League game against leaders Arsenal on Saturday.

The Goodison Park hierarchy reportedly held talks with former Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa about the position before opting to bring in Dyche.

Although Stubbs believes that Dyche is a good appointment, he criticised the club’s decision-making in recent years.

Speaking on BT Sport, Stubbs said: “We’ve had the same people making the same decisions time and time again, and we’ve gone with it, and we can see that they’re consistently getting it wrong.

“I think you can look at all the transfers that we’ve had since he’s come in and they’re from one extreme to the other. You know, what direction is this football club going in?

“The fans deserve answers right now, and they’re not getting answers. They seem to be hiding behind the managers and letting them take all the criticism.

“Why not come out? It’s the easiest thing to get these fans on side by answering some questions, but there’s a real reluctance to do it.

“I think there’s a breakdown between the fans and the board, and I think it’s broken beyond repair. That’s a major, major factor.

“The thing you’ve got to give him [Moshiri] credit for – he puts his money where his mouth is, there is no doubt about that.

“But who has he been listening to? Because he’s not listening to directors of football, he’s not listened necessarily sometimes to his managers. There’s lots of mixed messages coming out from this person.

“This is a brilliant football club and it’s getting destroyed.”

In his pre-match press conference, Dyche insisted the club were working hard to bring in recruitments before the window slammed shut.

“All I have seen is hard work, particularly in the recruitment area,” he stressed.

“We worked very, very hard [to bring new players in]. I can assure you the club worked hard because I was here, I was watching it, I was involved in it.”

“I was ringing agents,” added Dyche. “We were doing all of the diligence, crunching all of the numbers, analytics, doing all that we could do to define the players that could help.”
