All 12 children injured in Kansas City Chiefs parade shooting discharged from hospital
All 12 children being treated for injuries following this week’s deadly Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade shooting have been discharged from the hospital as of Saturday, The Post has learned.
Children’s Mercy Hospital in Overland Park, just south of Kansas City, received the wounded kids following the mass shooting on Wednesday. Nine of them had sustained gunshot wounds.
By Saturday, they had all been sent home, a hospital spokeswoman told The Post.
“We have great news to share — all patients have been discharged from Children’s Mercy,” she said.
She expressed gratitude for the “support and grace” hospital staff received following the horrifying incident, which started out as a joyous occasion celebrating the Chiefs’ Super Bowl win.
Samuel Arellano, 10, was one of the young victims shot at the parade and treated at CMH. A bullet missed his lungs by centimeters in what he and his family have called a “miracle,” according to reports.
Sisters Madison and Melia Reyes, 10 and 8 respectively, were also struck by bullets, and treated at the children’s hospital.
Their mom’s cousin was Lisa Lopez-Gavlan, a 43-year-old mother of two and Chiefs fanatic who died soon after she was shot in the melee.
The shooting, which police say stemmed from a dispute, also left at least 39 people wounded, 23 of them with gunshot injuries.
The victims ranged in age between 8 and 47 years old, according to Kansas City police, and at least half of the victims were under the age of 16.
Three other victims were still receiving care at University Health as of Saturday, according to the Kansas City Star. One of the gunshot victims was still in critical condition, while the other two were improving, the hospital said.
University Health treated 12 total patients, eight with gunshot wounds and four with other injuries.
Two teens were slapped with charges in connection to the shooting, officials said on Friday.
