All Stars’ could be coming
He’s keeping viewers on their toes.
Mike White, who is the creator of the hit HBO series, “White Lotus,” revealed that he’s open to having an “all-stars” season of the show, bringing together characters from the different seasons into one.
“It would be easy to just be full-on anthology, but I think it’s more fun to have little threads through the show,” White told The Hollywood Reporter this week about the series moving from being a “limited series” to a drama.
He continued, “If the show goes on for a couple of seasons, it would be fun to have an all-star season.”
However, White explained that he doesn’t want to limit himself to just one kind of plot line – explaining that it could potentially go in all different kinds of directions.
“There are so many ways that we want to reinvent the show each year,” he told the outlet.
“Like, what is this show — other than people? A fresh mystery, people maybe expect that. But I don’t feel constrained by expectation. It’s fun.”
In July 2021, the first season of “White Lotus” made its debut on HBO, and was met with a big reaction from fans and an audience of 1.9 million across “linear and digital platforms” for the finale, according to Variety.
The show, which featured star actors like Jennifer Coolidge, Aubrey Plaza and Lukas Gage, is set in different locations for its different seasons.
Coolidge even won an Emmy Award in 2022 for her portrayal of the iconic character Tanya during season 1.
The first season was set in Hawaii, as it documented different characters and employees staying at the fictional White Lotus resort chain over the span of one week – leaving a very surprising ending.
“As darker dynamics emerge with each passing day, the six-episode first season gradually reveals the complex truths of the seemingly picture-perfect travelers, cheerful hotel employees, and idyllic locale itself,” the show’s description reads.
The second season, which debuted in October 2022, was set in Sicily, Italy, bringing together a combination of new and old characters.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the third season was rumored to be filmed in Thailand, but it’s currently on hold due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike.
While speaking to Entertainment Weekly last year, Coolidge admitted that White was able to use some aspects of her own personality to shape the character.
The two have been friends since meeting on the set of “Gentlemen Broncos” in 2009.
“Mike is sitting there, he’s this brilliant mind, and he’s just observes people,” Coolidge recalled at the time. “He was observing my naïveté with a lot of my male relationships and saw how I just believed people in a very naive way.”
The 61-year-old actress continued, “Sometimes it’s good because, certainly I’m not discriminating of anyone in any way, but I sort of open the door and sometimes my realization of who someone was and what their intentions are are very slow.”
