New research has discovered that almost four out of five parents want to spend time with their family while doing a physical activity together rather than stay home.
A survey conducted by OnePoll in partnership with Life Time has found that 83% of parents have more fun getting active with their kids, with 89% rather playing sports and/or heading into the great outdoors.
Of 2,000 parents studied, 36% love to play basketball with their children, 34% like to dance and 32% adore swimming with their kiddies.
The average participant believes that introducing children to exercise at 7-years-old. However, one-third of people argued that it should be done earlier.
“Pickleball, swimming, group exercise classes — the list of healthy activities parents can enjoy with their children is virtually limitless,” Alicia Kockler, senior vice president of kids and aquatics for Life Time, said.
Kockler went on: “Teaching our kids about the benefits of an active lifestyle is so important, and exploring new ways to play together creates memories that will last a lifetime.”
Spending more time outside could even be the answer for 76% of parents who are searching for innovative methods to connect with their kids.
Of the moms and dads surveyed, 79% are also eager to try a new sport with their spawn for the sake of fun and family bonding time.
Meanwhile, one-fifth of parents would rate the physical health of their kids to be “average,” “poor” or “very poor.”
Two-thirds of survey takers reported that they want to see their kids become more active. About 38% noted how their children are just as sporty when the school year begins.
However, 30% stated that their children are more healthy during the summer than while school is in session.
“The start of a new school year is a great time to develop new family routines,” Kockler. said.
She continued: “We suggest designating one or two nights a week when the whole family participates in a fun activity together — like basketball or a family swim at an indoor pool. Families that spend more active time together, and less time staring at screens, tend to be happier and much healthier.”
