American Ninja warrior star Maggi Thorne says Southwest shamed her outfit

A veteran American Ninja Warrior contestant was allegedly shamed by a Southwest Airlines flight attendant for wearing an “inappropriate” outfit.

Maggi Thorne, a seven-time American Ninja Warrior contestant, was wearing high-waisted Nike joggers and a black crop top aboard Flight 1039 when she said a Southwest flight attendant asked her to cover up.

“@SouthwestAir attendant just shamed me in front of passengers saying my attire wasn’t appropriate,” Thorne wrote Friday on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Is this really happening in 2023? The passengers around me were stunned as she shamed me for all to hear.”

Thorne believes there was nothing wrong with her outfit, and that the flight attendant had stepped out of line given that Southwest does not have any formal clothing policy, only prohibiting “clothes that are lewd, obscene, or patently offensive.”

The athlete declined the flight attendant’s request to cover up, and said she lodged a complaint to another crew member while her flight to Nashville was laid over in Orlando.

“It was incredibly embarrassing,” she told Insider.

Thorne added that when the offending flight attendant came back to check in on her, the American Ninja Warrior contestant stood her ground.

“When I told her I wasn’t OK, I don’t think she knew what to do,” Thorne said. “I’m not a confrontational person, but what happened isn’t OK and someone should say something about it.”

Southwest Airlines has since reached out to Thorne, offering her an apology and informing her that a complaint has been filed on her behalf.

Soutwest Airlines did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.

Thorne’s case was not the first time Southwest has received backlash over crew members allegedly shaming women for their outfits.

Last year, actress Melinna Bobadilla, best known for her recurring role on Netflix’s “Gentefied, shared a viral tweet complaining that she was kicked off a Southwest flight after standing up for a woman who was being “slut shamed” for wearing “a tank top that was deemed too revealing.”

The debate over women’s attire aboard airplanes previously blew up in 2020 when Kayla Eubanks, of Chicago, revealed that she was kicked off her Southwest flight because of her low-cut black halter top.

“Y’all I was KICKED OFF my @SouthwestAir flight because my boobs are ‘lewd, obscene and offensive.’ I was told that passengers may look at me in my attire and be offended,” Eubanks wrote in a viral tweet.
